One of Donegal’s most innovative companies, North West Aluminium, based in Kilmacrenan has been awarded the prestigious ISO 9001: 2008 Quality Management certification. This is another accolade for a company which last year was voted Donegal’s ‘Business of the Year’.

North West Aluminium, now recognised as Ireland’s leading manufacturer and supplier of aluminium and PVC roofline products for the construction industry, are one of the first in their field to earn the top quality. Speaking yesterday Managing Director Daniel Gallagher said he believes the award is essential to open up new markets and opportunities for the company. He commented: “We’ve invested heavily in this quality assurance model and we are one of the first Donegal based small-medium sized businesses to achieve the certification. We already dominate our market in Ireland, North and South, and this international accreditation gives us the confidence and credentials we need to grow and compete for business overseas

ISO is an internationally recognised set of requirements that must be in place to have a quality management system, regardless of the organisation’s size, product or service line. Certification to this standard is voluntary and North West Aluminum completed a rigorous auditing process by a third-party register.

Josie O’Donnell, Quality Manager who was responsible for implementing ISO 9001 criteria said: “ISO is a very tough standard to reach and says a lot about our company. Our success in achieving this goal is due to the tremendous teamwork of everyone in the company and in particular the Donegal County Enterprise Board who provided invaluable support. We are also grateful to Brian Murray of Brian Murray Consultancy Services whose expert mentoring guided us through the year long procedure and simplified the whole process.’

Based in Kilmacrenan for over 20 years the company has invented, tested and developed a range of innovative products that have dramatically improved the lifetime of a roof and currently hold over 15 unique product Patents and Copyrights. They are in the process of opening their first distribution centre in the UK in early 2010 and according to North West Aluminium’s UK Sales Director, Martin Mortimer, “Our goal is to continue to focus on customer satisfaction and standardise the process for continual improvement. The ISO 9001:2008 is part of a strategic €1 million investment we are making in our company over the next two years as we continue to drive the business forward and focus on expanding into the UK market and replicating our Irish success.”
